How It All Began / Start of the Project PDF Print E-mail

The most natural way to describe the beginning stages of the project would be to refer to the basic task of the Haaga Unit of the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences.

"Via its students and graduates, Haaga Unit wishes to bring new thinking, energy and courage to change into the hotel, restaurant and tourism business and thus benefit both working life and the society. For our students, we offer learning that responds to the theoretical and practical needs of the industry and provides skills and competencies needed for future supervisory or managerial positions. The learning process promotes ethics and education, and enhances the characteristics, values and attitudes needed in the service industry. We train our students to manage entities as required by the industry and guide them into professional growth. Our job is to support regional development and promote international cooperation as well as carry out research and development for the benefit of both the industry and the school."

In other words, future-oriented thinking is part of our basic mission.

The former Haaga Institute, now the Haaga Unit of the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, is the leading educational institute for hotel, restaurant, and tourism management students in Finland. In the Haaga Unit (Haaga Institute), the idea of implementing the future-oriented element of hotel business into the hotel industry education process has come up from time to time for years.

Best Western Hotel Haaga is a significant cooperative partner for the hotel, restaurant and tourism management degree programme operating at the former Haaga Institute, now the Haaga Unit of the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. The hotel has provided an authentic business environment for hospitality training for students as well as for business experiments and for trying out new concepts.
